Testimonials

What our parents and students are saying

"Without her school music class and in-person lessons due to shelter-in-place restrictions, we were afraid our daughter would lose momentum with her music. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity for virtual lessons through CVSOM! Now she can maintain her regular weekly music lessons with the same instructor, just from the safety of our home. CVSOM made the transition to remote lessons very smooth and our daughter’s progress as a musician hasn’t skipped a beat!"

"Castro Valley School of Music has been a fantastic opportunity for my children (ages 6 & 9) to explore the piano and guitar in a comfortable environment. The teachers have been extremely patient, supportive and really allowed my children to discover a love of music. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. There are lots of offerings for group sessions and other opportunities, including recitals. I would highly recommend any person, young or old in coming to encourage a  lifelong love of music"

"Great place for piano lessons, safe and fun! Easy and fast communication to schedule the lessons, and to make the online payments! The teachers are great, they even gave my daughter paper notes so she can practice at home! Thank you guys for being so awesome!"

"We’ve been really happy taking online lessons with Billy. The transition was smooth and we receive the same level of instruction. It’s actually more convenient because it saves us on commuting time to the school. Keeping our son learning during this time adds structure to his day as well."

"Both my son and I have been taking separate music lessons from CVSOM on Zoom since the beginning of the shelter-in-place order. We are enjoying and learning a great deal from the classes. The technical setup is quite simple and requires no more than a working smartphone or computer with Internet access. In this strange time of physical distancing, the music classes have provided us a sense of "normalcy," connection, and joy in our life."

"I think the online lessons are not the same as in person lessons, of course.  The down sides are there can be some audio feedback / slight audio delay and Candace can’t position her hands if she’s having trouble. Initially they were using 2 devices:  an iPad to see each other on a table in front of Mina and a phone to show how she was positioning her hands. Now they are just using the iPad. The online lessons are helping Mina progress and maintain her skills. Mina really has a personal connection with Candace and the lesson provides accountability so she practices during the week. She is still continuing to learn new material. It is convenient for me that Mina can stay in the house and connect to the lesson on her own. It also made Candace aware that Mina needed to tune her harp!"

"My daughter and I have both been taking lessons with CVSM for a while, she on piano and I on guitar. When the shelter in place started, we were reluctant to try the Zoom lessons.   But, after several weeks at home, we decided to give it a go. We are very glad we did so! The practice adds some normality to our life and the instructors have been patient and professional over the zoom calls. We are moving forward once again..."
