drum lessons for kids and adults near me in castro valley ca
(AGES FIVE AND UP)

Overview

Our drum instructors will teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers may bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons and theory is encouraged.

We also offer Percussion Lessons, which is a wonderful addition to any school band program, rock band, or worship band.

You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons (though owning one at home will greatly benefit your lessons). Beginning students can learn with a drum pad and sticks for about $40. And we sell them at the studio!  Choose a rubber or plastic practice pad. A plastic pad has more natural response but makes more  sound.

Just starting out? Here are a few affordable ways you can keep the noise levels low:

• Start on a rubber practice pad

• Put rubber pads on cheap drums

• Purchase an electronic drum kit

What will I learn from drum lessons at Castro Valley School of Music?

Our instructors challenge our students with wide-ranging technical exercises designed to improve speed and comfort. Drum language can be complex, and theory is encouraged. Students can bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons.

Do I need to purchase a drum kit to learn the drums?

How long does it take to learn how to play drums?

Anyone could learn to play the drums, they are such a versatile instrument. Just hitting them makes a beautiful sound, but knowing how to play them properly, in rhythm, on beat and in time is imperative to being a successful drummer. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

I don't have any musical background or ability. Can I still help my child practice?

Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a drum should sound or how the student should be holding drum sticks, sitting at the drumset or positioning their hands.
