Why study Guitar at Castro Valley School of Music?
Our guitar instructors are talented, caring, warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. Finding a teacher that you are comfortable with is of utmost importance as we want your love or learning music to be nurtured.
What styles of music do you teach?
We teach all styles, from rock, pop, jazz, and blues to metal, country and classical guitar – on electric and acoustic guitars.
How qualified are your guitar instructors?
Our guitar instructors are highly qualified, all have teaching experience, and most importantly, they have a passion for teaching. Being a musician doesn't automatically make you a teacher--that's why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students!
What will I learn from guitar lessons at Castro Valley School of Music?
Beginner guitar students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of guitar method books, and encourage students to bring their smartphone or CDs to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.
How long does it take to learn how to play guitar?
Thats's a difficult question to answer, it would depend on your definition of playing the guitar. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. And of course, practice makes perfect. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
I don't have any musical background or ability. Can I still help my child practice?
Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents are welcome to sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of what is being taught and often can help student's by reminding them of aspects of the lessons.
